2002 Miss Georgia Marble Beauty Pageant
The Bethany Salem Volunteer Fire Department reports that the 2002 "Miss Georgia Marble" Beauty Pageant was the biggest and best Pageant since we began sponsoring the event in 1996. There were a total of 85 girls participating in the event. Director Tim Prather reports that he physically felt it was especially the biggest so far. "I was near total exhaustion at the end of the night. In the past we usually finished the Pageant at around 6:00 p.m., but this one ended around 8:00 p.m. I noticed that my speech was beginning to slur just from being so tired. I was ready to finish!" But, he adds that he was very honored to have introduced each and every girl onto the stage. "They're all winners, that's what we want them to feel." We hope each girl enjoyed this event also.
Each year we try very hard to make the Pageant as nice, glamorous, and fair an event as possible. No matter how hard we try to please everyone, we know that there is a possibility that someone will have negative feelings. "We have had several phone calls commending us on such a nice pageant." One lady reported that her daughter had participated in a Pageant in Cobb County previously and was disappointed as that event did not meet her expectations. However, she came to the little town of Jasper, not really expecting a whole lot, but was excitingly surprised at the organization, stage decoration, and the overall nice atmosphere. It was really great! Even so, we regret that we are unable to please everyone. "We do go to great lengths to make it as fair as possible" says Tim. When our judges met, they basically did not even know each other!! All of them were from out of town, and each had lengthy pageant experience. "I cannot do any better than that", says Tim again. Still, most of the comments we received were great! If anyone has any comments or suggestions for improvement for next year's event, we welcome them. Feel free to email them to Tim Prather.
Lastly, the Bethany-Salem Fire Department would like to thank everyone for their support. And, congratulations to ALL of the girls for their accomplishments!
